Amazing news for our school today! After our successful ERO visit, our Board and Staff decided we should enter the Prime Minister’s Education Excellence Awards that were closing on 18th March. These awards must relate to a case study, so we shared our journey in lifting writing achievement, and what we have done as a team to make this possible. Today we have been announced as National Finalists in two of the main categories, Excellence in Leading and Excellence in Governing! This is a wonderful achievement for our entire Learning Community. You can find out more about this at https://www.pmawards.education.govt.nz/finalists/ . We now look forward to welcoming two of the national judges to Hinuera School, as well as a film crew who will capture our story. Special thanks to everyone for working so hard to continue Learning and Growing together!
A reminder that school starts back Wednesday after Easter
The Junior Swimming Showcase is postponed due to weather. All going well we will hold this event next Thursday 31 March at 1pm. Have a safe and Happy Easter everyone.
At the start of this year all our teachers worked with John Parsons, the country’s leading child cyber safety expert. He is very up to date with issues that schools, student and parents/whānau need to consider to stay safe in today’s online world. This issues John raises are prevalent right here in our own community. I would strongly recommend that every parent in the school plan to attend one of the two parent/whānau evenings that schools will be hosting in our area in 2016. The first of these is 7.30pm, next Wednesday 30th March, to be held at Matamata Intermediate School. The later meeting will be in July, so if you will be busy in July, cancel all other engagements for the sake of your children, and get out and hear John next week. You can read about John at http://www.simulate2educate.co.nz/john-parsons
